Paul LeBlanc - Membership Director
Paul LeBlanc is the Deputy Director of DeSoto County Emergency Services. He has been with DeSoto County for 13 years, prior to working for DeSoto County Paul was enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Security Specialist. Paul is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Explosive Detection Canine Handler. Paul has been a member of the DeSoto County Sheriff Department SWAT team since 1995 where he serves as both a canine handler and medic. Paul is also the owner of Tri-State Canine Detection Services in North Mississippi, a company that offers both narcotic and explosive detection canines to businesses, schools and individuals.
Jason Purgason - Training Coordinator / Evaluator
Jason is the training director of Highland Canine Training, LLC. A Police Officer and former Police Canine Handler, Jason conducts police canine handler courses as well as all pet obedience and working dog training. Jason earned his Police Canine Instructor's Certification and has trained canines in the areas of Narcotics Detection, Explosives Detection, Police Patrol, Urban Disaster, Scent Discrimination Tracking and Cadaver Detection. Jason has instructed seminars for Police Canine Handlers at NASA, the Pentagon Police and for many other professional, government and law enforcement teams across the country.
SSGT Rickey Hooker - Training Coordinator / Evaluator
Rickey is currently the Military Working Dog Trainer with the 96th Security Forces at Eglin Air Force Base. Although Rickey received his first formal dog training/handling at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; he has really been learning about dogs his entire life. He continues to work hard to perfect his skills as a dog trainer/handler. Rickey has sought out training from some of the best dog trainers in the country and enjoys studying what others do right and wrong with dogs. He has a unique ability to incorporate many different ideas to form his own training approach. Rickey is a great teacher and enjoys helping others perfect their techniques too.
While at Eglin AFB, Rickey was chosen to attend a civilian K-9 Trainer's School which earned him the title of "Master Trainer". During this school, he gained experience training civilian obedience dogs, their owners and new dog handlers. Most recently, he attended a Drug and Explosive Detection Instructor's Course. He is currently in charge of the training of all Eglin's Dogs and Handlers.
